Dear Singers,
Wow! What a week of great music it has been! I just want to say one more time how thoroughly pleased I was with your performance today. Great performances are always the result of hard work, passionate expression, and attention to detail. This performance contained all of that, and you arrived at that place after being led by one of the all time greats. For me, the process of creating an art where humanity is at its best is as much or more exciting than the concert itself…the act of discovery so to speak, as we build a collective human expression that makes the sum of us greater than the individual parts. Living in a world that is determined to tear us apart, we can celebrate an art that brings us together.
I want to thank Elizabeth, Mary Gayle, Wade, John, Megan and Aaron, who were brilliant ensemble singers as well as wonderful soloists. Special thanks to Lorenzo Muti who has so many times trusted me with the leadership of his orchestra. Thank you, to the boards of both The Concert Singers of Cary and The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle for all they do to make these performances happen. Thank you Allen Bailey for your routinely outstanding work at the piano during our preparation period. And finally, my deepest thanks to Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt for his leadership this week, and for the extraordinary influence in my musical life that has made it possible for me to be a leader in this field that I love so much.
Please take the next few days to savor the experience, get some well deserved rest, and reacquaint yourselves with your family. It was a great week, a great performance, and a new high for season 25.
Bravissimo!!!
Larry
PS - No rehearsal this week! We are scheduled to resume next Monday for our Spring Symphonic program, The Deepness of the Blue.
