Choral Notes for July 2015

Dear Choir,

 

I hope that you are all staying as cool as possible this summer! Attached is a copy of the audition and Symphonic Choir schedule for 2015-2015, our 25th anniversary season.

Audition dates are also listed on the attached file. We have Symphonic Choir openings in both men’s sections and limited openings in women’s sections. New or existing members who have never sung in our smaller ensemble projects but are interested in doing so should sign up for an audition. Returning members who sang in at least one concert during the 2014-2015 season are not required to reaudition. Registration is open on the website. The Board of Directors has set the dues rate for next season at $100.

 

I want to highlight the January project. We will prepare for it during the fall semester while also preparing for the Holiday Pops. This may be the highest profile project that we have done in our nearly 25 year history as we welcome Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt for a one week residency, which will culminate in his conducting our performance of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass. If you are not familiar with Dr. Flummerfelt, he was Director of Choral Activities at Westminster Choir College for 33 years (he was my teacher when I studied there), Artistic Director of Choral Activities at the Spoleto Festival in Italy (22 years) and in Charleston, SC (36 years). He is currently serving as Chorus Master for The New York Philharmonic, where he has been for 44 years. In addition to our 40+ years of friendship and mentoring, he has also known Lorenzo Muti since he was a boy. While he has performed and taught all across the US and Europe, he has never done so in North Carolina. I will share additional details with you about his residency as they are finalized. Dr Flummerfelt won a Grammy for his recording of Mahler’s 3rd Symphony with Leonard Bernstein, The New York Philharmonic, and The Westminster Choir, and was nominated for a Grammy with Bernstein, for their recording of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, also with The New York Philharmonic and The Westminster Choir.

Lazy Daze – volunteers needed

 

Please check your calendars and find time to volunteer a few hours at this year’s Lazy Daze on August 22nd. We were unable to have a booth at Spring Daze this Spring due to lack of volunteers :(. Beginning at 9:00am on August 22nd, we need volunteers for two hour shifts until 5:00pm. Please contact me: MMingridnc at gmail.com <mailto:MMingridnc at gmail.com>  to sign up to man our booth for one (or two!) of the following time slots:

 

1.    9:00am – 11:00am

2.    11:00am – 1:00pm

3.    1:00pm – 3:00pm

4.    3:00pm – 5:00pm

This is one of our most profitable ways to introduce people to The Concert Singers of Cary and spread the word! All you are asked to do is infect newcomers with your enthusiasm for our group and have interested parties sign up on a sign-up sheet! Please contact me if you have any further questions.
