Hello Holst Singers – I’m so appreciative of your efforts for this
important series of performances. Please read below for lots of important
information.
*If you are not singing the Holst* you don’t need to read any further and
can delete this message.
We have rehearsal tonight (Monday) at 8:45 pm at Greenwood Forest. If all
goes well, this will be the last rehearsal prior to Wednesday, April 12 at
Meymandi. I am planning on giving the S/A singers Monday, April 10 off IF
we are solid by the end of tonight’s rehearsal. Please hold Monday April 10
in case we need it.
The schedule with the orchestra is:
April 12: Full orchestra rehearsal, 7 – 9:30 pm. Meymandi Hall, Raleigh
April 13: Concert, 7:30 pm, Memorial Auditorium, Chapel Hill, NC
April 14: Concert, 8:00 pm, Meymandi, Raleigh, NC
April 15: Concert, 8:00 pm, Meymandi, Raleigh, NC
Addresses:
Meymandi Concert Hall, Downtown Raleigh, in the Martin Marietta Performing
Arts Center (formerly called the Duke Energy Center); 2 E South St,
Raleigh, NC 27601
Memorial Auditorium, UNC Campus
208 E Cameron Ave, Chapel Hill
Your call time on Wednesday, April 12 is 7:00. Please go directly to the
green room downstairs upon arrival. You may need to take a COVID rapid test
when you arrive. The test will be provided by the symphony. We will then
warm up and rehearse in the green room, prior to our part in the rehearsal.
Please bring a mask with you. We will not wear masks when we sing, unless
you want to, but the symphony still has certain mask rules when backstage.
The Holst is the last item on the program, after intermission. I have been
told it will be the final part of the rehearsal on Wednesday, April 12. All
to say, there will be some down time while we are there, so plan to bring a
book or something to sit and do.
On Thursday, in Chapel Hill, the concert starts at 7:30 pm. We will have a
warm up in the green room at 7:30, and test out the back stage area at
intermission, which will be around 8:00. However, PARKING at Memorial
Auditorium is a challenge. The symphony recommends you park in the Friday
Center South Park and Ride Lot *by 6:45* and catch the shuttle bus. There
is other parking information available at this link:
https://www.ncsymphony.org/plan-your-visit/7/memorial-hall/. However,
parking near Memorial Hall is a challenge. It is on the UNC campus, It WILL
take you extra time, please plan for that.
Call time on Friday and Saturday at Meymandi is 8:00, the start of the
concert.
PARKING and ENTRY:
For our events at Meymandi, you will need to use public parking in the
area. You will enter the performing arts center through the stage door at
the back of the building, off of Salisbury Street, by the Kennedy Theatre
parking lot. The Kennedy lot and the gravel lot across the street are
parking by permit, and they are not giving us permits for this concert. In
addition to parking on South St. and Lenoir, there may also be parking on
Kindley St.
For the performance at Memorial Auditorium, parking is a challenge. See
information at this link:
https://www.ncsymphony.org/plan-your-visit/7/memorial-hall/. CONSIDER
CARPOOLING or coordinating with a driver who can drop you off closer to the
hall. To catch the shuttle from the Friday Center lot, you need to get
there by 6:45. Allow extra time for parking and for walking. I will provide
you with confirmed details about entry and the location of the green room
when I get them, but usually the stage door is to the left side of the
building near the loading dock.
Finally, if you have not yet provided your vax and booster info to Thom,
please do so right away. The symphony is cross-checking this list!
Thanks for your efforts. The Holst is a magical few minutes of music, and
it’s a great opportunity to perform with the NC Symphony. Thanks for
attending to these details.
