[New_csc_newsline] Thank you and an individual opportunity

Dear Concert Singers - thank you to the many, many, many of you who
participated in the survey. The board is reviewing the results, and the
information you provided will help inform us as we move forward. The
conditions surrounding the pandemic have changed in the last few weeks, but
I want to assure you that our planning all along has always considered the
possibility of sudden changes like this. That is why we waited until late
July to do the survey. More information about the upcoming season will be
sent in the next couple weeks.

The primary reason for this message is to share with you an opportunity
that has presented itself to us regarding "Where We Find Ourselves." As you
know, CSC was one of many co-commissioners of this work, including several
others in the Triangle. And in fact, the composer was so pleased with our
video presentation that she has used our recordings in promotional material
and other applications. When she gets inquiries from groups who might be
interested in performing it this year, she often sends them a link to our
presentation on YouTube. We can pat ourselves on the back for a job well
done.

There is a large group performance of Where We Find Ourselves being
organized to take place in New York City in June of 2022, and a couple
months ago, CSC was invited to participate. Given all the many factors
affecting our organization right now, the board, with my concurrence,
determined that now is not the time for CSC to take on a project like this.
However, the Choral Society of Durham, who was also one of the
co-commissioners, is planning to go. Their conductor, Rodney Wynkoop, will
be conducting the performance. They have extended an invitation that if any
individual singers from CSC would like to participate, those singers could
go as a part of their group. I anticipate that since we've all already done
the piece, it would only involve attending a few rehearsals with them in
the spring - however those specifics will all be determined by their
organization. The larger point is that singers could participate this year
with CSC and then join them for the trip.

This trip is no way related to our cancelled New York trip from 2020. It is
with a different company, and there is no connection between the two. They
are completely separate matters.

If you are not interested in this trip, you need not read this message any
further.

If you might be interested, please find below the letter sent to the Choral
Society of Durham singers from their Admin Assistant, Susan Parnam. It
gives initial details about the costs and such - despite the listed payment
schedule, it is still possible for people to add on. There is an interest
survey that they ask you complete.

If you are interested, I ask that you please direct your questions to Susan
and not to the CSC staff or board. Her email is:
susan.choralsociety at gmail.com. The CSC staff and board do not know the
details, and we have determined that we need to keep our focus on other
matters at this time. Quite honestly, I was hesitant to even bring it up,
but in the end we thought it would be unfortunate if our CSC singers were
not made aware of the opportunity.

Best wishes to all, and thank you again for participating in the survey.
The board will be in touch in the near future with updated information
about our season.

Nathan

Hello Singers,

We are excited about the Carnegie Hall trip and I wanted to share what
information I have on the June 6, 2022 concert. It would really help in
planning if those singers interested in going fill out this survey
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/forms.gle/rcr28Cu8uncck6iVA__;!!OToaGQ!4kmSZAfApGdC7mONOD8JVSHSz1FscINUaEbupDxr3Hr6fxSqMp-Gw0sIkzVvW5U$>.
All of the trip plans are based upon health/safety issues. None of these
answers are binding.

Here is the schedule for the $860 performance fee to CSD:

August 6, 2021 $200
January 5, 2022 $200
March 21, 2022 $460

I will send out a link that you can use for the first payment by July 28th.
You can also mail a check payable to CSD to Choral Society of Durham, P.O.
Box 72182, Durham, NC 27722. Please note Carnegie June 2022 on the check.
You need to be aware that there is a small chance the first deposit fees
may not be refunded to you if you decide later not to participate, although
you will be refunded any fees you have paid if DCINY needs to cancel the
concert. Having a lot of singers sign up now will help assure DCINY that
this concert is viable, but since singers can add themselves to this event
later, you might want not to pay the August 6 portion if you’re less than
50% sure that you can take part.

If you are purchasing a $430 VIP Patron pass for a non-performer (which
includes admittance to all rehearsals, the concert, and the post- concert
reception), here are the due dates:

August 6, 2021 $200
March 21, 2022 $230

We have been told that there will likely be separate, less expensive
tickets to the reception available for purchase closer to the concert date,
but making the first payment for a VIP Patron pass guarantees a place at
the reception.

Participants need to arrive in NYC on Friday, June 3. There will be
rehearsals on June 4 and 5, time to be determined. There is also a
rehearsal on June 6 in Carnegie (time to be determined) and the concert at
7 p.m.

Lodging:
We are looking into arranging blocks of rooms in hotels that might have
cost and convenience advantages. I am also getting quotes from DCINY’s
preferred travel agency, Artist Travel Consultants (ATC). You can also
contact ATC directly to request special DCINY Artist rates, travel
arrangement assistance and unique packages to consolidate all of your
needs, including DCINY Participation. Call 212.707.8170 or visit
www.ArtistTravels.com

Whether you go through ATC or make other arrangements for travel and
housing, please bear in mind this caution from DCINY: “Do not make any
non-transferable or non-refundable arrangements (travel, hotel, shows,
etc.) until DCINY can confirm all participants and the rehearsal schedules
for this residency with you in writing.”

Transportation:
For even more “convenience”, we are also looking into the possibility of a
bus from Durham to NYC. If interested, please note in the survey.

I hope to include more information on lodging and transportation in the
email later this month.

Best regards,

Susan
