მისალოცი მომღერლები (Greetings singers, in Georgian!),

>From Nathan: “For rehearsal on Monday Oct 5, we will meet briefly at
7:30pm for a warm up and some announcements. After that, everyone can
feel free to spend the rest of the Monday time doing their recordings
or stay on the Zoom with Nathan to get answers to questions or go over
specific parts. Nathan will stay on the call until 9:00 regardless, so
if questions come up, singers can just hop back on the Zoom mtg and
ask them. You don’t have to leave the mtg, just mute and stop video.
We understand that it can be difficult to carve out extra time to do
these recording projects, not only for your schedule but also because
it requires a place in your home that is quiet and free of
interruptions from other people, pets, doorbells, etc. We are hopeful
that using the time you have already set aside for rehearsal on Monday
evening as recording time can help to alleviate this challenge, and
make it easier for everyone. Reminder: the files are due Oct 11.”

I (Thom) recorded all of my 10 Brickyard sections and uploaded them, it
took me about 2.5 hours (including rehearsal). It was fun - such variety in
what she is having us create! I did this now to ensure the process is
doable and to compile some additional tips/tricks that might help you. Here
they are:

- it's easier I believe if you use a tool like Audacity - a free audio
editor one can download from the web. You can then record right to it on
your PC, if you have a decent PC mic. However, it is certainly not
necessary, and it is perfectly fine to record on your cellphone. And of
course, there is a learning curve with Audacity... so don't mess with it if
you get easily intimidated or frustrated with new software that has a
non-trivial initial learning curve :)

https://www.audacityteam.org/download/

- start with the easier letters first - e.g. B or D

- for me, the Practice Guides were really all I needed, and they are gold -
they make it so much easier.

- pro tip: listen repeatedly to a PART of a lettered section on the
practice file, pause it, then go and record that snippet; pause the
recording, and repeat that process. Don't be too concerned if in doing so
you may not have just the exact proper amount of silent space between
snippets.

- temporarily turning off your phone's screen saver might help, you don't
want to have to mess with taking your phone out of black 'sleep' mode when
trying to pause recording!

- remember to use different tempos (tempi?) as you iterate in the boxed
parts, Lisa is looking for variety

- listen to each of your lettered recordings in its entirety before
considering it done, to make sure you are happy with it (but don't fret
about a hiccup or small mistake - perfect is the enemy of good)

- if you have trouble double-click starting sound or video files at the
Google Drive folder, or they ‘freeze’, you can download them to your PC and
run them directly from there, instead of across the cloud

- if you don't see the attached msg after uploading your files, it is
possible they did not complete the process of being uploaded...

I have added an “Avatar help” folder at the Google Drive, with
instructions that should simplify the process you need to follow (they
were posted several days ago at the private Facebook CSC Singers
group). We are providing all the needed Brickyard files now at that
Google Drive folder:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1H7BuXNdHFGp47v1xcsqUrriosJKGdbzj

To access it you do not need a Gmail ID, but you may be required to
have a Google account. You may be asked to log in, and if necessary,
create an acct. You can use any email ID to register.

The Practice Files page still has the “Sicut Cervus” links, and some
additional Brickyard ones:
