Concert Singers - here is a great opportunity to learn a bit about the
Broadcast from Home project that we are going to participate in June 4-8.
The composer, Lisa Bielawa, is holding a free online forum about the
project, tomorrow (Thursday) at 4 pm. You can scroll down to the second
event in the email below to see information and how to register. There is
no cost to participate.

The Next Festival of Emerging Artists is sponsoring the forum. The Next
Festival is a summer festival run by my NC colleague, Peter Askim. As you
can imagine, they are not able to hold the festival in the typical way this
summer, so they are doing several of these types of forums.

*Artist Bio:*
Renowned as a musical pioneer, Grammy-nominated cellist *Matt Haimovitz *is
praised by *The New York Times* as a “ferociously talented cellist who
brings his megawatt sound and uncommon expressive gifts to a vast variety
of styles” and by *The New Yorker *as “remarkable virtuoso” who “never
turns in a predictable performance.” He brings a fresh ear to familiar
repertoire, champions new music, and initiates groundbreaking
collaborations, as well as creating innovative recording projects. In
addition to his relentless touring schedule, Haimovitz mentors an
award-winning studio of young cellists at the Schulich School of Music of
McGill University in Montreal and is now the first-ever John Cage Fellow at
The New School's Mannes School of Music in New York City.

*Seminar Overview:*
*Broadcast from Home* fosters community during the isolation of the
coronavirus crisis, and will be continuously created through a responsive
and participatory artistic process. Creating a large-scale participatory
project like *Broadcast from Home* under lockdown has brought new insights,
skills and values to my practice. I will share both the how and the why of
this project, with detailed descriptions of how it evolved and what we have
made and learned.

is a Rome Prize winner in Musical Composition, the recipient of the 2017
Music Award from the American Academy of Arts & Letters and was named a
William Randolph Hearst Visiting Artist Fellow at the American Antiquarian
Society for 2018. Kulturprojekte Berlin recently premiered her work *Mauer
Broadcast*, a series of pop-up choral performances for the 30th anniversary
of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Her music has also been premiered at the NY
PHIL BIENNIAL, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, SHIFT
Festival, and Naumburg Orchestral Concerts. She began touring as the
vocalist with the Philip Glass Ensemble in 1992. In 2019, she became the
inaugural Composer-in-Residence/Chief Curator of the Philip Glass Institute
at The New School. She received a 2018 Los Angeles Area Emmy nomination for
her made-for-TV-and-online opera *Vireo: The Spiritual Biography of a
Witch's Accuser*, created with librettist Erik Ehn and director Charles
Otte. Bielawa is currently at work on *Broadcast from Home*

a new large-scale interactive work in response to the coronavirus
crisis. *Broadcast
