Hello again, Concert Singers.
For our rehearsal on Monday, at 7:30, we will sing through, in some
fashion, 4 pieces:
Mozart: Solemn Vespers, Mvt. 1 (Dixit Dominus)
Beethoven: Hallelujah, from the Mount of Olives, which we performed last
October
Come Rain or Come Shine, which we performed at our Great American Songbook
concert in March of 2019
Who Could Ask for Anything More (Gershwin medley), also from the GAS concert
Please have your music for those pieces with you. If you cannot find those
pieces or do not have them any longer, the versions with my markings are
posted as pdfs on our members page. We will meet over Zoom. As some of you
may know, because of the slight time delay involved in online formats like
this, it does not work to hear everyone else while you sing. While we may
have some alternative options for the fall, right now this is what we will
use. I think it will serve the purpose. We will sing for a bit, then have
some announcements and other discussion. We will meet for 45-60 minutes. At
the end, we could also take some time to discuss Carnegie Hall - those not
involved could leave at that point.
On Monday, plan that you can go to a room where you will feel free to sing
out strong. You can apologize in advance to anyone with which you share a
home if you wish. Music will be played for you from the computer or phone
that you are using. You can choose to wear headphones if you like, which
would prevent others from hearing the music from the computer, but they
will also make it more difficult to hear yourself when you sing. Your
choice.
If you have not used Zoom before, it is not terribly complicated. You can
do it from a computer, tablet, or phone. Your device must have a camera,
screen, speaker, microphone - although you could do without the camera if
you want. I've pasted below the invitation to the Zoom meeting. You can
join the meeting by following the link. You can also join by going to the
Zoom web site and entering the Meeting ID. You will need the Password to
join.
When using Zoom, there are some necessary protocols. With a large group, it
is important that people mute their microphones when not speaking. This
matters for all sorts of reasons, and will be how we sing together. We'll
figure out the rest as we go.
I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as can come. Monday, 7:30 pm.
Best,
Nathan
