Nazdar!

Our next rehearsal is Mon Apr 22, 7:30-9:30pm at the CAC Marcus Dry
room. Mendelssohn at 7:30, Debussy at 8:30 – I need 3 vols. to email
me and commit to being there by 7:10pm (no later) and help set up
chairs, to be done by 7:20pm. Thanks again to Al Pasquale for all his
help with this.

>From Nathan:

“Thank you all for great work on Monday. I am excited for our potential.
Our next rehearsal, April 22, is our last rehearsal to do the building work
for these pieces. On April 29, we need to present to Maestro Muti at the
*beginning *of the rehearsal a polished product with notes, rhythms,
pronunciation, intonation, and all of those things 100% ready to go. It is
at that point that we put our toe to the *starting* line of being able to
make music. The point of the April 29 rehearsal is for the Maestro to be
able to shape the musical elements to fit his conception, and so we will
need to be assured and also flexible to do as he asks.

To that end, please review your parts in the spots that you need.

Mendelssohn choir, you have the practice tracks and pronunciation guide.
Please review especially movement 7.

Debussy choir, you have the pronunciation guide. Now you must become fluent
in speaking these words in the correct rhythm, and then adding the notes.
It will take actual speaking yourself, out loud. Listening to the recording
is helpful to a point, but is not sufficient for getting to a point of
being able to deliver the text. I know you are working hard - we are
getting there, but we still have a bit further to go. I've made part tracks
(attached) for the first page that you sing - the a cappella section. It's
completely exposed, no help from the orchestra, so we will need to be very
confident. There is a lot to the history of The Blessed Damozel. It's a
poem, and a cantata, and a painting. Check it out here (thanks Beverly
Olson!): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Damoiselle_%C3%A9lue

Thanks for all you do!”
