A Message From Larry:

Dear Choir,

Fifty of our singers are celebrating the performance of Grieg’s Peer Gynt with The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle last Sunday, bringing our 2014-2015 season to a close. Read the review at http://cvnc.org/article.cfm?articleId=7463 It was enthusiastically received by those in attendance and by The Chamber Orchestra’s board, ensuring that we will build on our partnership in the coming years.

I am writing to thank all of our members for their work in what has been a wonderfully successful 2014-2015 season! All of our events were successful artistically and organizationally, which was made possible by the hard work and dedication of our singers and our board. ALL OF YOU have given of yourselves to make this organization the success that it is and I am deeply grateful for your commitment to making The Concert Singers of Cary the major force that it is for great vocal music in the Triangle.

I am also writing to announce our plan for 2015-2016, our 25th anniversary season! I have attached a document outlining the plans, but I want to highlight the January project. We will prepare for it during the fall semester while also preparing for the Holiday Pops. This may be the highest profile project that we have done in our nearly 25 year history as we welcome Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt for a one week residency, which will culminate in his conducting our performance of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass. If you are not familiar with Dr. Flummerfelt, he was Director of Choral Activities at Westminster Choir College for 33 years (he was my teacher when I studied there), Artistic Director of Choral Activities at the Spoleto Festival in Italy (22 years) and in Charleston, SC (36 years). He is currently serving as Chorus Master for The New York Philharmonic, where he has been for 44 years. To read more about him, see his site http://www.josephflummerfelt.com/biography.html This project is special on many levels. In addition to our 40+ years of friendship and mentoring, he has also known Lorenzo Muti since he was a boy. While he has performed and taught all across the US and Europe, he has never done so in North Carolina. I will share additional details with you about his residency as they are finalized. Dr Flummerfelt won a Grammy for his recording of Mahler’s 3rd Symphony with Leonard Bernstein, The New York Philharmonic, and The Westminster Choir, and was nominated for a Grammy with Bernstein, for their recording of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, also with The New York Philharmonic and The Westminster Choir.

Please read the attachment thoroughly and reserve as many of the dates as possible. We will be sending information in the coming weeks regarding rehearsal schedules, Lazy Daze volunteer requests, auditions, and registration information. In the meantime, have a great summer! May it be filled with rest, recreation, and the people that you love!

Sincerely,

Larry
