Dear Singers,

I am writing to let you know about some changes in the rehearsal schedule for this spring that was sent in early December, and to answer some questions that have come to us this week regarding participation in the winter spring events. I have attached a revised copy of the spring schedule.

Given the close proximity of our concert projects it is vital that we overlap our rehearsals to be ready for March and April, and the schedule that I sent out early last month reflects that. Unfortunately, the Chamber Orchestra threw me a bit of a curve this week when they let me know that they only wanted 20 singers for the Pergolesi Stabat Mater which is part of our March 22nd program. You may recall that I had originally planned to have all of the Symphonic Choir Women participate on that work. The Bach Magnificat has a limit of 70 singers that are balanced in number between men and women. Some of the women that will be singing the Bach will cover the Pergolesi meaning that only Chorale will sing on March 22nd. The 70 singer limit is driven by the amount of room on stage. For last years King David performance, I had the whole Symphonic Choir participate because it only called for 17 instruments, leaving room for the full group. The orchestra this year will have 28 players so we must limit the chorus to 70. I'm sorry for the lost opportunity for our Symphonic Choir women.

To reflect this change, we will move to the following Monday night schedule through March 16th:

7:15 - 8:30 - Symphonic Choir - prepare for the World Music program on April 18th (beginning on 1/12/15)
8:30 - 9:30 - Chorale prepares for Bach and Pergolesi on March 2nd (beginning on 1/26/15). The group preparing to sing at the gala will use this slot on 1/12 and 1/19.

Past participation in Chorale events does not guarantee a spot in the March and May concerts this spring. I sent an email today to those who I contacted last summer about singing. If you have questions about this let us know. If you want to be involved let us know that too and we'll see if there are any open slots. The last Chorale concert was the Schubert Mass performed in March of 2013.

The April 18th World Music program is the only Symphonic Choir program for the spring.

Sorry for any confusion that this may cause. We're doing our best to utilize your time as efficiently as possible.

Sincerely,

Larry
