[csc_newsline] Concert Reflections

Dear Choir,

 

I want to express my deepest thanks for your outstanding work at our concert
on Saturday. The program was wonderful and your work in presenting the
choral component was deeply appreciated. Phil Feo and Vince Leonard asked me
to convey their deepest thanks and appreciation. It is a joyful and
frightening thing to hear your music performed live for the first time and
your hard work made it a reality. The Von Trapp Singers were delightful,
both on and off stage and the programming mix made for a compelling evening.

 

I also want to acknowledge what I know is the frustration associated in
performing in a gym. Every effort was made within budget limitations to make
the space work for a concert setting. We have performed there numerous times
since our premiere concert in 1991 and always struggle with the balance
issues, lighting issues, riser issues and diction devouring acoustics. I was
hopeful that with the tech resources that were available for this concert
that we might have a better result.  The reality though is that the room is
and always has been a our best argument for the need for a dedicated
performance arts space and we have finally arrived at that point. I also
feel that despite the obstacles that the audience was very pleased with the
results and is astute enough to see that better days are ahead. While I've
learned to never say the word never I am hopeful that we have performed our
last concert in that setting.

 

I also want to thank The Town of Cary, Lyman Collins, Sarah Preston and the
entire dept of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources for the opportunity
to collaborate with them on The Marvelous Music Series and for the
additional support that was afforded us to make this concert possible. Many
thanks also to Rich Hobson for the long and tedious work that it took to
coordinate agreements with all the performers involved.
